{"id":184,"date":"2012-03-31T17:19:02","date_gmt":"2012-04-01T00:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fagelman.com\/?p=184"},"modified":"2012-03-31T17:22:14","modified_gmt":"2012-04-01T00:22:14","slug":"for-bobby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fagelman.com\/?p=184","title":{"rendered":"For Bobby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We walk through the world<br \/>\nNot showing the fear that boils down under<br \/>\nPutting on the brave face<br \/>\nand Striding into the darkest night<br \/>\nKissing our worried wives or husbands or lovers<br \/>\nThey may not say it but they feel it as they watch us<br \/>\nEnsconcing ourselves in Kevlar vests<br \/>\nAnd leaving for<br \/>\nthey pray<br \/>\nThey pray<br \/>\nJust for the day<br \/>\nAnd we walk the through the world<br \/>\nBrave hearts and souls<br \/>\nCaring more than many<br \/>\nCaring more than most<br \/>\nJust because we are<br \/>\nthe last to run<br \/>\nand the first to stand and fight and try<br \/>\ntry<br \/>\ntry<br \/>\nTo save this place for another minute, hour, day<br \/>\nWe do it for children<br \/>\nWe do it for love<br \/>\nWe do it because we can\u2019t help it<br \/>\nPicture<br \/>\nA murdering demon<br \/>\nEscapes clutches of the right<br \/>\nAnd careens through people filled city streets<br \/>\nSteals a taxi with an innocent woman inside<br \/>\nburning rubber burning burning<br \/>\nScreaming brakes and piercing sirens<br \/>\nCrashing back and forth from street to street to street<br \/>\nOl\u2019 lady gets out in the airport tunnel<br \/>\nroad ripping her and breaking her and scattering her like<br \/>\nporcelain dolls dropped by a careless moving man<br \/>\nAnd demon finds another victim takes their<br \/>\nride just a car jacking murdering fool he is<\/p>\n<p>Grinning now faster faster 70<br \/>\n80 90 miles per hour<br \/>\nTrying to outrun the courage chasing him in black and white chariots<br \/>\nso close so close<br \/>\nAnd up ahead in the distance<br \/>\nBrave, brave Bobby<br \/>\nLaying out the spikes<br \/>\nPlacing them just right<br \/>\nYou know he kissed his wife<br \/>\nHeld Dawn in his arms like comfort<br \/>\nShe hoped like the others for safe returns<br \/>\nOf cops who work in this razor blade jungle<br \/>\nAnd Brave Bobby<br \/>\nLaying out the spikes<br \/>\nThinking about stopping the innocent from a madman<br \/>\nNot having time to think about the Cleaveland Indians that he loves so much<br \/>\nJust thinking about the Job<br \/>\nThe Job<br \/>\nLaying the Spikes<br \/>\nStopping the Demon<br \/>\nAnd We all have a moment<br \/>\nWorking in this mixed up insanity<br \/>\nWhere time stands still for an instant<br \/>\nPhotograph of forever drifting on soft lights downward<br \/>\nBobby on the side of the road<br \/>\nClick<br \/>\nNearing forever<br \/>\nClick<br \/>\nAnd the Demon<br \/>\nCapering and leering cuts the S.U.V. Into bobby like a Tank ramming an angel<br \/>\nClick<br \/>\nAt forever<br \/>\nBobby on stretcher<br \/>\nDying light wringing out from behind his eyes<br \/>\nJuanita and Robert praying and praying<br \/>\nHero cops Tim &#038; Won helping to save him and capture the Demon<br \/>\nAnd snapshot forward<br \/>\nto a<br \/>\nMiracle<br \/>\nHe lives<br \/>\nHe lives<br \/>\nHe lives<br \/>\nMore and more and more Alive<br \/>\nIn spite of Evil<br \/>\nIn spite of pain<br \/>\nLike the beings who ran helter skelter into burning towers to save the innocent never to return<br \/>\nWe feared Bobby was gone<br \/>\nLost<br \/>\nCarried away into some other place far beyond his Wife and family and dogs and treasured Indians<br \/>\nIn a place most never come back from<br \/>\nJust gone<br \/>\nBut heroes never truly die<br \/>\nSome live on in memories<br \/>\nGhosts of greatness traveling on unseen but very well felt currents<br \/>\nOthers<br \/>\nWhen miracles happen<br \/>\nSurvive<br \/>\nLike<br \/>\nBobby<br \/>\nHero<br \/>\nWarrior<br \/>\nHero<br \/>\nMan<br \/>\nHero<br \/>\nHusband<br \/>\nHero<br \/>\nSon<br \/>\nHero<br \/>\nBobby<br \/>\nWho is here<br \/>\nWith us now<br \/>\nAnd ready to move on<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 2001 Harry R. Fagel<\/p>\n<p>Authors Note:  This poem was written for Bobby Kintzel, a young Nevada Highway Patrolman who was hit by a murder suspect driving an SUV over 88 miles per hour as he attempted to lay spike strips down.   Bobby received massive injuries and has not fully recovered to this day.  The poem was written for a fund raiser for him, and was performed at The Orleans Showroom along with nuemrous other performers.
